History

France has a long and complicated history. It has been through many changes, and has been a part of many different empires. France was first settled by the Celts, and later became a part of the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire, France was ruled by the Franks. The Franks were a Germanic tribe, and France gets its name from them. France later became a part of the Holy Roman Empire. The Holy Roman Empire was a group of countries that were all ruled by the same person, the Holy Roman Emperor. France became its own country in the late 1700s, and has been through many changes since then.

France is a country located in Western Europe. It is bordered by the English Channel, the North Sea, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Monaco. The capital of France is Paris. The country is divided into 22 regions and 1 overseas collectivity. The total area of France is 640,679 square kilometers. The population of France is 66,991,000.
